Know your right pair of shoes

Choosing the right shoes is important no matter how decent or equipped with specific
characteristics. Once the shoes are not compatible with your foot shape, it is likely to
cause uncomfortable sensation and lesson the effectiveness of your performance

The first important step is knowing what type of foot shape you have.

It is also crucial to be familiar with the width and narrow part of your feet since each person has diverse foot shapes. Some possess big, wide feet, while the others have small or narrow feet. Generally, Japanese people have wide feet with under pronation. On the contrary, Caucasians mostly have narrow feet with overpronation. This answers the question why some feel less comfortable with certain types of shoes as there is very little space left. They should opt for shoes with wider toe caps. For people with rather flat feet, we suggest avoiding shoes with arch support insole. It is important to bear in mind that you should be aware of your foot shape prior to any purchase or sizing.

The time of purchase

It is commonly believed that the size of your feet would be slightly different for 0.5-1.0 cm in the evening, compared to the size in the morning. It is highly likely due to the fact that the arch of heels would get wider after bearing the pressing weight. Also, after a long day of standing and walking, blood flows through our body to our feet causing them to swell slightly. Thus, the best time to purchase new shoes is in the afternoon to evening as your feet tend to stretch a little wider. Shoes purchased during these suggested times would likely fit comfortably and less impending issues.

Trying on shoes

Upon choosing shoes, we suggest you pay close attention to the sensation once you try new ones. Since you would wear it for a long time, a thorough inspection should be done to avoid purchasing wrong or less comfortable shoes that do not fit your foot shapes as it is likely to cause issues and affect your performances later. Thus, once choosing shoes, remember to try on both sides as left and right feet could appear to differ in shapes and sizes. Be sure to observe the sensation once your soles touch the insole and after laces are tied.

Checklist for shoes

Point 1 Instep

In case there is too much space behind the instep, it might cause scratches. Had the shoes been too tight or compact, you would not feel comfortable wearing them and would likely experience pain. Try loosening your shoelace and adjusting to see whether you feel comfortable.

Point 2 Toenails

Once you stand or walk with your chosen shoes, be sure to move your toenails to see if there is some comfortable space. The ideal space should be roughly 1.0-1.5 cm. Had your toes or little fingers feel compact, health issues regarding feet might follow.

Point 3 The arch of your feet

Had the cushion of the insole not fit with the pronation of your feet, it might cause pain and aching feet. Therefore, those who have rather flat feet should select shoes with decent cushion.

Point 4 Heels

In case there is wide space behind your heels and shoes tend to fall off while lifting feet, it is somewhat harmful. Thus, shoes that fit perfectly are a decent choice.
